There are suggestions that Leica may have removed a recent statement (briefly placed on their website) regarding the ‘final fix’ for the sensor corrosion issue affecting Leica M9, ME and Monochrom CCD cameras. You can see the Leica forum post here, but the link to the Leica website is now dead at the time of writing.
The words pasted into the forum post suggests there is a new-spec replacement sensor that has been developed and will be used to replace affected sensors, regardless of age or ownership. This means that owners will no longer face the spectre of CCD sensors being replaced by sensors that have the exact same potential for corrosion as the original. This is a real and permanent fix for sensor corrosion!
There must be a reason my Leica removed this statement, but we do know they have promised a permanent fix. While I am a little suspicious and hope the rug is not going to be pulled out from under our feet, as a Monochrom owner (original), I am cautiously optimistic!
