It is clear that there are a lot of truly talented and knowledgeable photographers visiting this site, which is good for everyone! I am therefore very keen to receive submissions from readers that are either short and punchy ‘Showcase Submissions‘ or full ‘Article Submissions‘:
I want to showcase the work of talented amateur and professional photographers. The idea is to simple: to share quality, thought provoking work in a short format and therefore build up a collection of talent for new readers to look through and get inspired by! Each submission will consist of 3 to 7 images (that are related by theme, style etc), with a little text to explain about the work, the photographer and the equipment used. I cannot offer payment, unfortunately, but your work will be seen by a rapidly growing audience and I will include any relevant links to your website, Facebook page etc. The details for submission are listed below:
Please send the following to ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’
Attach: Between three and seven photographs from a series (if you must watermark them, please ensure they are discreet and do not spoil the image) that are between 1200 and 1500 pixels on the long side. Jpeg format, quality or around 80% is about right.
**Cut and paste the below field into the email you send to the above address and fill in the bits in square brackets**
- Name & Online Presence: [insert your name and link/s to your website, blog or other online platform].
- About the Photographs:[insert short description of the images you are submitting – no more than 100 words]
- About the Photographer: [insert a very concise biography – no more than 100 words]
- Equipment Used: [insert a concise list of equipment used]
- Additional Information: [insert any other info you desire – no more than 100 words]
- Critique Requested: [Yes/No – delete as appropriate. If yes, I will ensure only constructive comments are posted]
This sort of submission is ideal for someone with excellent work to share, but who does not want to do much writing!
The sky is the limit here! If its interesting, educational, inspirational or thought provoking I’m keen to hear all about it! Here are some examples of what I am looking for.
Photo Projects or Series: This is a big one… Have you shot a body of work that is personally important to you, or that you are really proud of? Have you really found your game in this body of work… its your personal ‘bullseye’ and you have more to say than is possible under a ‘showcase submission’?
Technique: Have you made a big breakthrough or found a particular approach, product or technique has made a big impact on how you work, for the better? Do you feel you can explain something that is complicated in very simple terms? Perhaps you have an unusual approach that few people have considered, but others might benefit from?
Equipment: Have you had a really positive experience with new equipment that has been felt and seen in your photographs? Have you made a big changes in what you have been shooting with and want to share the experience of that transition?
Inspiration: Is there a photographer whose work has rocked your world? Perhaps there is a photographer whose work you did not ‘get’ and this has changed, so you would like to share why? Have you had an unusual or troubled journey through photography, with difficult obstacles that you overcame? What advice can you give someone who is staring at the same challenges? Are you undertaking a massive project that you’d like to share as you go?
These are just examples and I suspect I have only scratched the surface above. The key is the same holy trinity: quality, insight and honesty
How to Submit
Just drop me an email with a short summary of what you propose (one paragraph) and a few sample images, if appropriate. Please put ‘TPF SUBMISSION – Your Name’ in the title. I will do my best to respond quickly.
I cannot offer money, unfortunately, but this is a ready made platform to share your contributions across the world. Your post will include links to your website and/or blogs and you’ll get comments and feedback (if you wish). Most importantly, you can bask in the fuzzy glow associated with contributing to something special. That’s how I see this site: a collective of like-minded people who absolutely love what we do. And what do we do with love? We share it!
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!
